Sound Effects
Making New SoundsSound design is great fun.
For sound design within Wazatron Studios I use a number of recording and editing tools. There is a nice small collection of microphones, mobile recording devices, and an odd collection of instruments. The applications primarily used for sound design here at the studio is Ableton Live, Digital Performer, Audacity, Fission, and all sorts of fun plugins, effects, and mishy-mashy tools.
Most of the sound design to date has been within song writing, or adding specific effects for various audio projects, but almost every project has some level of sound-design needs.
Here is a fun little sample of some basic sound effects that have been built in the past. Most are created entirely from scratch. A few – pistol, machine gun, spell casting – started from “stock” sounds and have been messed-with to come up with my pistol sounds, machine gun sounds, etc.
